Waitrose, North Walsham, Norfolk

The Salt Town team were contracted to perform remedial works on a Waitrose site in Norfolk after a leak had been detected.

Client & Requirements

A Waitrose supermarket in Norfolk had reported signs of leakage coming from the roof. Due to the site’s Latchways system, the client required an experienced contractor trained in this particular system. Logistica FM contracted us to perform a thorough roof survey and remedial works.

Solutions & Delivery

Roof Survey

After thoroughly investigating the roof, we noted several observations, including identifying five leaks with water ingress from four points on purlin lines and the ridge areas.

Our survey also demonstrated signs of ageing, corrosion and an unusable Latchways system; the installed safety line was insufficiently covering the roof, and notable defective areas included the ventilation covers and upstands.

Missing ridge flashing was also causing water to enter the building.

Roofing Solutions

Following our appropriate recommendations, we replaced the missing ridge flashing to prevent future leaks.

To combat the cut-edge corrosion on the aged roof, we removed any corrosion to cut edges/overlaps and applied primer to the area for treatment, followed by a base coat with GRP matting and top coats.

The final step was to replace old fixings and stitches contributing to the roof’s damage.  The process included replacing old fixings with EPDM rubberised washers, a secure elastomer that protects against the elements.

Results & Future Value

Our rigorous investigation and vital remedial work ensured the roof was left free from water ingress issues. We had effectively executed the necessary remedial works, and the likelihood of future roofing issues was significantly reduced.
